Rootwork is a personal symptom log for pain, medication, and chronic conditions. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your information. It is written to be specific rather than reassuring — every claim below describes actual behaviour of the app.
Your health information never leaves your device. Rootwork has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no server that receives your entries. Nothing you record is transmitted anywhere.
Everything you enter — pain entries, medications and dose logs, journal entries and photos, flares, PainFrames, care events, condition logs, body-map drawings, settings and preferences — is stored only in local storage on your device.
Journal photos are written to the app's private data directory on your device. No copy is uploaded.
We cannot see any of it. There is no account to log into, and no mechanism by which your entries reach us or anyone else.
Rootwork makes network requests in exactly two situations, both optional:
1. Weather and air quality. If you enable weather features,
the app sends your approximate coordinates to Open-Meteo
(open-meteo.com) to retrieve forecast, historical and air-quality
data for your area. No health information is included in these requests.
2. Place names. To display a readable location name instead
of raw coordinates, the app sends your approximate coordinates to
BigDataCloud (bigdatacloud.net) for reverse
geocoding. No health information is included.
These requests contain coordinates only. They do not contain your entries, your name, an account identifier, or a device identifier assigned by us. As with any internet request, the receiving service can observe the originating IP address; that is a property of how the internet works, not data Rootwork sends deliberately. Their handling of it is governed by their own privacy policies.
If you never grant location access and never enable weather features, Rootwork makes no network requests at all.
Location is used only to fetch weather and to label entries with a place name. It is requested through the operating system, so it is only available if you grant permission, and you can revoke it at any time in iOS Settings. Coordinates are used at coarse precision — enough to identify local weather conditions, not to track your movements. Revoking permission disables those features and nothing else.
All fonts and images are bundled inside the app. Rootwork does not load fonts, scripts, stylesheets, or images from third-party servers, so opening the app does not announce itself to anyone.
Rootwork contains code for an optional, opt-in research contribution feature. It is disabled and has no destination server configured. It transmits nothing. If that ever changes, it will require your explicit, informed consent first, it will be opt-in rather than opt-out, and this policy will be updated before any data is sent.
There are none. Rootwork contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no tracking pixels, and no third-party telemetry. Nothing about your use of the app is measured or reported. Rootwork does not track you across apps or websites and does not build a profile of you.
Your data is never sold, rented, shared, or disclosed — because it is never collected in the first place. There is nothing on our side to sell or hand over.
You can export your data at any time from within the app; the export is written to a file you control and shared through the standard iOS share sheet. It goes wherever you send it and nowhere else.
You can delete everything from Settings → Clear all data, which permanently removes all entries and deletes stored journal photo files from the device. Deleting the app also removes all of its local data. Because nothing is stored on a server, deletion on your device is complete deletion — there is no backup of your entries held by us.
Rootwork is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. As no information is collected, no information about children is collected.
Rootwork is a personal record-keeping tool. It is not a medical device, and it does not provide diagnosis, treatment recommendations, or medical advice. Patterns, trends and summaries it displays are descriptions of what you recorded, not clinical findings. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional about your symptoms and treatment. Never disregard or delay professional medical advice because of something you saw in this app.
During TestFlight beta testing, Apple collects information about installations, sessions and crashes, and testers may submit feedback and screenshots through TestFlight. That is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy and is separate from Rootwork — your health entries are not part of it. Crash reports may include technical diagnostic data about the app, but not the contents of your entries.
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change with it. If a future version ever involves transmitting personal information, that will be described here clearly and will require your consent.
